Make a Difference, Join the Board

The subject club has worked to strengthen the ISM community, bring you relevant information and tell employers about what you as an ISM student can bring to the company.

Month by month, more great companies have learned about ISM, seen your value and chosen to work with Aalto ISM. Event by event, people on the same courses as you have turned from familiar faces to friends and colleagues.

All this wouldn’t be possible without the ISM community and the common goal of getting the most value out of your studies. Now it is your turn to be a driving force for that common goal and steer the ISM community forward.

The board year of Aalto ISM is coming to an end and 10 spots are opening up for new motivated people who are committed to making a difference. If you’ve made it this far in the text, that means one of those spots is for you.

Open positions

The subject club has 9 different roles where you can shine and earn invaluable experience, connections and reputation. Each position brings responsibilities and pays out in the fulfilment you receive from knowing you’ve helped your fellow students.

  • Chair
    The chair of the board is responsible for overseeing the actions of the board, hosting weekly meetings and representing the subject club at various events.
  • Vice Chair
    The Vice Chair is mainly responsible for organizing the study trip and makes sure meetings have an agenda and venue. The vice chair is also quite free to choose additional ways to contribute.
  • Treasurer
    Responsible for planning the yearly budget, informing availability of financial resources for events organiziers and other investments, invoicing companies and implementing financial statements at the end of the year.
  • Events Coordinator
    The events coordinator is responsible for organizing events and making sure everything event-related is taken into consideration.
  • Corporate Relations
    Corporate relations representatives are responsible of developing and sustaining the corporate relationships of Aalto ISM. They meet with company representatives and work closely with them. Aalto ISM has two corporate relations positions.
  • Academic Relations
    The academic relations role works closely with department, meeting with them to discuss development possibilities regarding our major
  • Communications
    Communications is responsible for managing outgoing communication and the various channels the club uses for communication.
  • Art Director
    The art director is responsible for the look and feel of the Aalto ISM brand.
  • Senior Advisor
    The senior advisor brings insights from previous board work, so that there is no need to reinvent the wheel every year. This position is advised to be filled with a member of the previous years board.

The board selection will happen on the 26th of November, 2020. Positions with more applicants than spots will be selected with a vote. We’ll be sharing more content in the coming weeks.

Covid-19 update

The ISM board is sad to announce that due the new recommendations from the Finnish government and KY board we have decided to cancel the rest of our live events for this autumn semester. This includes our after exam, Novemberfest and board election.

We hope to resume hosting live events ASAP when the COVID-19 situation allows it. Stay on the lookout for remotely held events from us!

Aalto ISM Peer-to-Peer Case Night

Aalto ISM invites fellow students to practice case-solving! In this event, all participants will crack one case and act as an interviewer for one case. The aim is to gain confidence and insights into case-solving, have fun, and meet new people.

This event will be held through Microsoft Teams. All Aalto students have an account for Teams and the participants are expected to have access to their account. Participants will have the contact info for their pair and will set up the call themselves.

We will share the case beforehand so that there is time to prepare for holding the interview. If you have more experience, you can choose the case where you act as an interviewer.

Event flow:
17.00 – 18.00 Time to solve the first case + brief feedback session with the pair
18.00 – 19.00 Time to solve the second case + brief feedback session with the pair

Naturally, the aim is to solve the case as efficiently as possible and move to the second case right after.

Here you can see what events there will be this fall! You can find detailed info from our Facebook page as soon as the event gets published. There can be changes to the events due to the Covid-19 situation. Many of the excursions are online excursions.

EDIT: Physical events have been canceled. The events “After Exam at Fat Lizard”, “Novemberfest” and “Christmas party and Board Election” will not be arranged. Alternatives are under discussion.

ISM Lenkki is the jogging meet-up organized for ISM students by ISM students. ISM students meet up every Tuesday at 18.00 at the Hietsu outdoor gym(The original one, not the commercial one). Changes to plans are informed through the ISM Telegram, so be sure to join the TG group as well!

This event is the perfect chance to get to know more about the master’s programme in ISM as well as to network with your study friends.The event will be held at Sievo Sauna, located in Jätkäsaari. Welcome to the opening event for all new ISM students!

It’s time to start the year with a bang! This event is the perfect get together for all new ISM students to meet and mingle in a relaxed event, and learn about what it is like to study in ISM. Summer is quickly nearing its end and soon studies will resume. For some, time has flown by and they wish they could have spent more time at their summer cottage, while others are longing to see their friends again. Thankfully, there is a way to satisfy both groups of people. The solution is the Summer Cottage Sitsit in Smökki on Thursday 13.8, organized by the songleaders of the Guild of Physics, the Guild of Surveying Engineers, the Computer Science Guild and Aalto ISM. Due to the coronavirus situation we would like to remind people to exercise extra caution. The Sitsit have an increased risk of droplet infection. Being indoors, singing and being in a large group of people increase the risk. Additionally, the food in the Sitsit is not made by professionals, which increases the infection risk. With all this taken into account, we ask all participants to adhere to the following recommendations:

  • If you feel at all sick or unwell, do not attend the event.
  • If you are diagnosed with a condition caused by the coronavirus up to 14 days following the event, inform the event’s responsible person and give your contact information. The responsible person will give the contact information of all participants to the officials so that all participants can be informed of the exposure.
  • Avoid meeting persons that belong in risk groups for at least a week after the event.

Aalto ISM Spring Meeting

The Board of Aalto ISM is happy to invite all Aalto ISM members to our spring General Assembly (Spring Meeting). The General Assembly has the highest decision-making power in our association. All members of Aalto ISM have the right to vote and voice your opinions on the club’s most important matters. 

The General Assembly will exceptionally take place on Zoom and later than usual due to the current restrictions.  Please find the detailed agenda attached here. Unfortunately the agenda is in Finnish, however the meeting will be held in English if required. 

 In brief, we are going to approve the previous year’s financial statements and this year’s action plan and budget.
